We Are Union Made
Every right workers have today was won through struggle. Throughout history, courageous men and women fought and sacrificed to win better wages and working conditions. Over a century after working people went on strike to demand the eight-hour day, far too many workers are trapped in the same exploitative conditions that gave rise to this movement. Unions remain more important than ever, not only to expand legal rights but to give workers the power to make those rights real.
Caitlin Vega and Sara Flocks have each spent more than 25 years in the Labor Movement, working as organizers, union representatives, and labor lobbyists. For the past 12 years, they worked together to shape the California Labor Movement’s legislative agenda, helping to draft, negotiate, pass, and implement some of the nation’s strongest and most effective labor laws. They organized legislative hearings, union conferences, regional convenings, and member lobby days. They worked to build a culture of solidarity where unions stood together to fight for economic justice and good jobs for all.
Together, they founded Union Made to help unions develop effective strategies to win. Union Made works with international, statewide, and local unions, as well as labor management committees and central labor councils. They run legislation, direct statewide and local issue campaigns, provide strategies to support contract campaigns, create trainings for members, and advise union leaders on policy and politics. They work on national, statewide, and local policy initiatives.
The name “Union Made” represents not only their commitment to the values of the Labor Movement, but also that their advocacy has been shaped by and is intended for this movement. The mission of Union Made is to share political and policy expertise, legislative strategy, legal analysis, and faith in member engagement with unions to increase density in core industries, improve working conditions, and build power for working people.
